My 2018 Travel Bucket List
Since my first trip of the year didn’t quite go as expected I have decided to make myself feel a little bit better about some upcoming trips I want to take this year.
Since I took my first Christmas trip abroad (to Madeira – you can see my photo diary here) since I was a child I have vowed to spend every Christmas abroad – where possible, obv – so a hot December is on the cards. I’m also planning a few little European breaks.
Here’s where I’m planning on going this year:
A last-minute trip with my uni bestie:
We decided to go to Eurovision this year but when the tickets came on sale for minimum 200 Euros we decided against that. However, we may still go to Lisbon during Eurovision just to soak up the atmosphere and wave a few flags around before
getting horrendously drunk immersing ourselves in the Portuguese culture. We’re also talking about possibly going to Amsterdam instead, so we’ll see. This trip is definitely happening in April/May.
Volunteering in Thessaloniki, Greece:
I’ve been wanting to go over to Greece to volunteer with refugees for a while now and I’ve already been in touch with an organisation who deal with this. You need to be ready to fly out on short notice in a certain time frame so I’m just waiting a few weeks to apply until the timing is right. Fingers crossed this happens soon.
Solo travel through The Balkans:
Hopefully, in the summer, I’m going to travel for a few weeks around the Balkans to make up for the fact that I won’t be in Edinburgh again. I fell in love with this part of the world during my solo trip through Croatia and Slovenia a couple of summers ago and have wanted to explore some more ever since.
Close to The Balkans so definitely do-able. I have never been to Italy, or much of Western Europe come to think of it, but I really want to very soon.
Christmas in Australia (with a few days lay-over in Dubai):
This one might be a little bit too ambitious, but we’ll see! I’ve wanted to go to Australia for as long as I can remember and what better time to visit than at Christmas? I’ve also had my eye on Dubai for a while now, so I figured I’d probably tie the two into the same trip. Hopefully I’ll be back at uni in December, so money will be tight but if I start saving now I might just do it…
Where are you travelling to this year? Have you been to any of these places and have any tips? Let me know in the comments!
